The Heroes at the Criterion Collection do us proud nearly every week, and this one is no exception. Preston Sturges' THE PALM BEACH STORY (@ BLU SALE) is one of his funniest films, a breathless screwball comedy about an inventor who needs to raise some quick cash to build one of his machines, so his adoring wife decides to divorce him and marry a millionaire in order to score the funds. Unsurprisingly as timely and hilarious as it was when it came out in 1942, this is a great addition to the Criterion lineup.

From the highbrow to the lowbrow, our other favorite title this week is Luc Besson's ridiculous, bizarre sci-fi feminist action film LUCY (@ BLU SALE), starring Scarlett Johansson as a young woman who gets exposed to a new synthetic drug that turns her into a superheroine. In less than 90 minutes, Lucy goes from a girl with a hangover to the most powerful being in the universe, transcending space and time. As silly as it is thrilling.

As for the rest, don't forget to check out the following: Those Criterion geniuses also bring us Guy Maddin's hypnotic ode to his hometown, MY WINNIPEG (@ BLU SALE). We've got the latest slice of madness from Terry Gilliam, THE ZERO THEOREM (@ BLU SALE). Avant-garde master Christ Marker's LEVEL FIVE has been finally restored and released. Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini star in crime drama THE DROP (BLU). Do you like scary children's dolls? Meet ANNABELLE (BLU). Some classic noir lands on blu-ray with THE WEAPON (@ BLU SALE) and WORLD FOR RANSOM (@ BLU SALE). Also new to blu-ray this week, the 1956 WAR AND PEACE (@ BLU SALE), and ON GOLDEN POND, both starring Henry Fonda. Indie legend Gregg Araki is back with WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD. On the foreign film front, we've got some Italian neo-realism in ADUA AND HER FRIENDS (@ BLU SALE), and Alain Robbe-Grillet's LA BELLE CAPTIVE (@ BLU SALE). Last but not least, for the kids there's stop-motion animated THE BOXTROLLS (@ BLU 3D SALE).
