First up is JODOROWSKY'S DUNE (@ BLU SALE), a new documentary chronicling a failed attempt by legendary director Alejandro Jodorowsky to adapt Frank Herbert's novel Dune in the late 70s. The film includes interviews with Jodorowsky himself, now well into his 80s, and he depicts the effort as less a film production and more of a spiritual quest. Featuring tantalizing excerpts from the massive preproduction and design work, compiled into a gigantic 1,000-plus page book that was distributed to major studios at the time, this film isn't so much the story of a film that never got made as it is an ode to the power (and limits) of creativity and art itself. If you're a film fan, you owe it to yourself to check this out.

Next is Lars von Trier's epic, two-part, 5-hour sexploitation/satire/provocation NYMPHOMANIAC VOLUMES I & II (@ BLU SALE). Charlotte Gainsbourg plays Joe, who we first encounter beaten an bloody in a back alley. She's rescued and taken in by Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård). She's a self-described nymphomaniac (hence the clever title), and while she recovers she tell him her sordid life story, recounting any and every sexual encounter she can think of. It's as explicit as you've heard, although mileages may vary as to just how shocking it actually is. Nevertheless, it's a potent and confrontational look at misogyny from von Trier.

Speaking of not for the faint of heart, get ready for THE RAID 2 (@ BLU SALE), the sequel to THE RAID: REDEMPTION. It picks up immediately after the first film to find our hero Rama (Iko Uwais) going deep, deep, deep undercover to shut down Jakarta's rampant corruption, only to find himself trapped in a vicious gang war. It's two and a half hours of punishing Indonesian martial arts, and some of the best action anyone's seen in years. Do not miss it.

As for the rest, don't forget to check out the following: STAGE FRIGHT (BLU) is a terrific spin on the slasher movie...this one's also a musical. A social worker investigates a really messed-up family in THE BABY (@ BLU SALE). A grown man enters a spelling bee in BAD WORDS (BLU). Severin brings us a couple more horror classics with BLOODY MOON (@ BLU SALE) and BLOODY BIRTHDAY (@ BLU SALE). An alternate version of elderly hijinks with BAD GRANDPA .5 (BLU). Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan have a second honeymoon in LE WEEK-END (@ BLU SALE). Get some hilarious killer-alligator action in LAKE PLACID (@ BLU SALE). There's classic gothic romance THE LOST MOMENT (@ BLU SALE). William Powell has a wild vacation in MR. PEABODY AND THE MERMAID (@ BLU SALE). A group of National Guardsmen run afoul of some Cajuns in SOUTHERN COMFORT (@ BLU SALE). Max Ophuls' pitch-black noir CAUGHT (@ BLU SALE) arrives on Blu-ray, as does George Pal's 1960 version of THE TIME MACHINE (@ BLU SALE), and the existential crime masterpiece POINT BLANK (@ BLU SALE), with the great Lee Marvin. WATERMARK (@ BLU SALE) is the new documentary from the director of MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES. And on the TV front, there's VICIOUS: SEASON 1, starring Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi, and the Inspector Morse prequel ENDEAVOUR: SERIES 2 (@ BLU SALE).
