First up, the Heroes at the Criterion Collection have brought us the latest masterpiece from Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, Like Someone In Love (@ BLU SALE). If you haven't heard of him (and why not?), he's responsible for some of the most renowned films to come out of his country in the last few decades, especially the amazing Close-Up. This one was originally written for an Iranian cast, but Kiarostami eventually decided to shoot it in Japan. It follows a young prostitute who develops a connection with a lonely widower while after finding himself spending a few days with him. Certainly an idiosyncratic and charming film with a deceptively potent subtext about the barriers, both literal and figurative, that separate people.

Next, there's Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (@ BLU SALE), his 1979 remake of F.W. Murnau's silent vampire classic. It stars Klaus Kinski as Count Dracula and Isabelle Adjani as the object of his obsessive lust. Herzog's film departs significantly from the Bram Stoker novel but it's no less evocative, with gorgeous, haunting cinematography to compliment Kinski's terrifying performance. The new blu-ray looks fantastic.

Finally we've got one of Scarecrow Video's all-time favorite classic slasher movies, finally on blu-ray. Tourist Trap (@ BLU SALE) is under-seen and under-appreciated. This 1979 gem (predating Friday the 13th, and uninfluenced by Halloween) does crazy things.  All the pieces of a standard horror film are there, but done with a bit of a twist and a little class. It's a movie that seems familiar but at the same time incredibly fresh, and it has one of the most cold-blooded murders we've ever seen in a film, and it originally managed to score a PG rating!

As for the rest, don't forget to check out the following: Kevin Costner as a CIA agent trying to simultaneously reunite with his estranged daughter and fight the bad guys in 3 Days to Kill (BLU). George Clooney and an all-star cast track down stolen art during WWII in Monuments Men (@ BLU SALE). Picture Titanic but with a volcano instead of a luxury liner and you'll get Pompeii (@ BLU 3D SALE). A concert pianist is targeted by a clever assassin in Grand Piano. More classic Italian crime with Gang War in Milan (@ BLU SALE). John Wayne tames the wild west once again in McLintock! (@ BLU SALE). There's also the Martial Arts Movie Marathon (@ SALE), a cheap 4-pack of vintage kung-fu!

For documentary lovers, there's a new DVD of Roman Polanski's 1971 Formula 1 racing chronicle Weekend of a Champion, and Bill Frisell lends his music to a documentary about the Mississippi River Flood of 1927 in The Great Flood. And on the TV front we've got brand new seasons of Call the Midwife, Dalziel & Pascoe, Nikita, Waking the Dead and Warehouse 13!
