The best arrivals this week are all great new special editions of some classic titles. In the top spot, the heroes at The Criterion Collection have brought us a beautiful new version of Lars von Trier's heartbreaking and deeply spiritual BREAKING THE WAVES (@ BLU SALE). Set in the Scottish Highlands in the 1970s, it's about a woman named Bess (Emily Watson), who believes she hears the voice of God. When her husband is paralysed in an accident, what he asks of her will jeopardize their marriage, her place in her community, and her relationship with the God in which she so deeply believes. This is a tough movie to take in but the ultimate reward is well worth it.

Then we've got two Film Noir staples from Universal, finally making their way to domestic blu-ray. First is Billy Wilder's bleakly humorous DOUBLE INDEMNITY (@ BLU SALE). Fred MacMurray stars as an insurance salesman who gets mixed up with one of cinema's great Femmes Fatales, Barbara Stanwyck, as a housewife who desperately wants to, uh, terminate her marriage. Even though you can probably guess how it's all going to work out, this film remains one of the peaks of the genre, plus it's got twice the Indemnity!

And then there's Orson Welles' TOUCH OF EVIL (@ BLU SALE), a film perhaps just as great as CITIZEN KANE. Charlton Heston stars as a young Mexican cop investigating a bombing on the American side of the border, where he runs afoul of a corrupt local police Captain played by Welles. Welles notoriously struggled with the studio during the making of this film, resulting over the years in three different versions of it, all of which are included in this set. It's a must-own, especially for Noir fans, but really for any movie lover.

As for the rest, don't forget to check out the following: Steve Coogan and Judi Dench team up in recent Best Picture nominee PHILOMENA (@ BLU SALE). Ben Stiller remakes the classic imaginative comedy THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (BLU). Ralph Fiennes directs a little-known chapter of Charles Dickens' life in THE INVISIBLE WOMAN (BLU). Animator Jan Svankmajer's ALICE (@ BLU SALE), an amazing version of "Alice in Wonderland". New remakes of GREAT EXPECTATIONS and FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC. Kevin Smith's MALLRATS (@ BLU SALE) gets a blu-ray release. Anthony Mann's Korean War drama MEN IN WAR (@ BLU SALE). Another under-appreciated noir, this time from Douglas Sirk, SLEEP, MY LOVE (@ BLU SALE). Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are buddy cops in RIDE ALONG (BLU). James Franco directs hypothetical deleted scenes from William Friedkin's CRUISING in INTERIOR. LEATHER BAR. On the TV front there are new seasons of BLETCHLEY CIRCLE and RIPPER STREET. And for the kids there's THE NUT JOB (@ BLU 3D SALE). Remember to scroll down this page to check out all the new Warner Archive / Manufacture-on-Demand titles we got in this week as well!
