First up is one of the greatest and most diabolically entertaining films of 2013, Martin Scorsese's THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (@ BLU SALE). It's the epic, (mostly) true story of Jordan Belfort, a young stockbroker who craved power and status above all, and lead a life that was essentially a parade of hookers, drugs and money. Scorsese directs this mammoth of debauchery with the same energy and wit he brought to classics like GOODFELLAS and CASINO, and it's one of his very best movies. Di Caprio has never been better (well, maybe DJANGO UNCHAINED). By the time it's over, you'll be wishing you could still get quaaludes somewhere.

The heroes at the Criterion Collection bring us another contemporary release, this time Paolo Sorrentino's THE GREAT BEAUTY (@ BLU SALE). It follows aging writer Jep Gambardella, still dining out on a popular, award-winning novel he wrote decades ago. He's partied his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome ever since, but after his 65th birthday and the sudden death of a figure from his past, Jep looks past the nightclubs and parties to find a timeless landscape of strange beauty.

Also in store this week is Abel Ferrara's feminist revenge masterpiece MS. 45 (@ BLU SALE). This grindhouse classic sees a young woman who loses her already-tenuous grip on reality when she's assaulted twice in one day. She manages to overcome her second attacker and take his .45 automatic, and she sets out on dark streets on New York City to exact vengeance on any man she meets. This is a graphic and intense thriller, and although some of it might seem silly or dated to today's audiences, the anger underneath it is too powerful to ignore.

As for the rest, don't forget to check out the following: two more classics from those Criterion heroes, Ingmar Bergman's PERSONA (@ BLU SALE) and Harold Lloyd's silent THE FRESHMAN (@ BLU SALE). New from French provocateur Bruno Dumont is CAMILLE CLAUDEL 1915 (@ SALE). Asghar Farhadi, who directed the amazing A SEPARATION, has a new film, THE PAST (BLU). We've got some new thrillers, one a locally-produced film called JUNK (SALE), and a serial killer movie called ODD THOMAS (@ BLU SALE), based on a Dean Koontz novel. There's a new collection of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 with four more terribly hilarious experiments. For the kids it's the CG-animated WALKING WITH DINOSAURS: THE MOVIE (@ BLU 3D SALE), and new from Marvel Comics is AVENGERS CONFIDENTIAL: BLACK WIDOW & PUNISHER (@ BLU SALE). On the TV front we've got VEEP: SEASON 2 (@ BLU SALE) as well as new seasons of KEY & PEELE, CONTINUUM and CALIFORNICATION.

Want some documentaries? There's one about pioneering Riot Grrl Kathleen Hanna, THE PUNK SINGER (@ SALE). Or a look at the disastrous confrontation between Philadelphia Police and the MOVE organization in LET THE FIRE BURN. And there's ALIEN BOY: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF JAMES CHASSE, about a young Portland musician whose schizophrenia tragically led to a deadly encounter with police.

For Blu-rays, we've got another Scorsese classic, THE KING OF COMEDY (@ BLU SALE), vintage Australian horror with PATRICK (@ BLU SALE), and Burt Lancaster pool-hopping his way home in THE SWIMMER (@ BLU SALE).
