A BAND CALLED DEATH—In early 70s Detroit, three teenage brothers formed a proto-punk band called Death, but despite their innovative sound they didn't achieve much in the way of commercial success. Thirty years later, their demo tape turns up in an attic and finally gets the recognition it deserves in this inspiring true story of musicians and family.  BLU  @  SALE

GIRLS: SEASON 2—At Season Two’s start, pretty much everyone in Lena Dunham’s smart, insightful HBO comedy series is an emotional mess, especially her character Hannah. Over the season she and her friends either work their way out or burrow themselves further down, both to hilarious and often uncomfortable effect.  BLU

OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN—The first of this year’s Die Hard-in-the-White House movies is from Training Day director Antoine Fuqua and stars Gerard Butler as a former Secret Service agent who must save the President (Aaron Eckhart) from a nasty gang of terrorists. Along for the harrowing action are Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, and Melissa Leo.  BLU  @

THE COMPANY YOU KEEP—Robert Redford directed and stars in this thriller about a reporter (Shia LaBeouf) who exposes a lawyer as a 60s radical who changed his identity after being accused of murder. It co-stars, well, almost everyone, including Chris Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Richard Jenkins, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, and Susan Sarandon.  BLU  @

THE GUILLOTINESInfernal Affairs director Andrew Lau’s martial arts extravaganza pits a Qing Dynasty assassination squad against their dangerous new emperor.  BLU  @

SECONDS—The Criterion Collection presents John Frankenheimer’s 1966 sci-fi influenced thriller starring Rock Hudson as a bored middle-aged man who underwent strange treatments in search of a fresh start. Criterion says, “this paranoiac symphony of canted camera angles (courtesy of famed cinematographer James Wong Howe), fragmented editing, and layered sound design is a remarkably risk-taking Hollywood film that ranks high on the list of its legendary director’s major achievements.”  BLU  @  SALE
