THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE—The Criterion Collection presents a newly restored and extra-filled version of Guillermo del Toro’s gothic ghost story. At the end of the Spanish Civil War, a twelve-year-old boy is sent to a rural orphanage, where he uncovers a multitude of spooky haunts. It’s a fine balance of emotionally engaging and totally creepy. The extras include an interactive director’s notebook.  BLU  @  SALE

NIGHT ACROSS THE STREET—Chilean director Raul Ruiz’s final film before his death in August 2011 follows an elderly man  on a dreamlike remembrance of his life. The journey is a moving mix of beauty and melancholy.   @

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION— Dwayne Johnson, with the help of grizzled vet Bruce Willis, leads the Joes as they take on Cobra and the craziest plans for world domination since Austin Powers. It’s totally ridiculous but completely enjoyable, especially for the fantastic ninja chase across steep Himalayan mountainsides.  BLU   3D BLU

BANSHEE: SEASON 1—Lies, corruption, and crime in Amish country! This Cinemax original series from Alan Ball (True Blood, Six Feet Under) set in a secret-filled small town stars Antony Starr as an ex-con searching for his lost love and hiding from the Mob.  BLU  @

THE FOG—John Carpenter’s 1980 atmospheric horror film gets a new extras-heavy collector’s edition and Blu-ray debut thanks to Scream Factory! Tom Atkins, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hal Holbrook, Janet Leigh, and Adrienne Barbeau star in the moody tale of ghostly seafarers wreaking misty havoc on a small town.  BLU  SALE
