QUARTET—A charming British comedy set in a home for retired musicians, where egos inflate and past conflicts flare up when a famous singer moves in just as preparation for their annual concert begins. Pauline Collins, Billy Connolly, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, and Maggie Smith lead a wonderful cast in the first feature film directed by Dustin Hoffman.  BLU  @  SALE

EDEN—We can’t describe local filmmaker Megan Griffiths’ (The Off Hours) harrowing thriller better than The Strangers David Schmader did in his review: “it's a veritable master class in how to make humane art out of inhumanity.” This based-on-a-true-story follows a young woman’s long struggle to survive after being abducted and forced into prostitution by human traffickers, with strong performances by lead actors Jamie Chung (who won the Golden Space Needle award for Best Actress at SIFF 2012), Matt O’Leary (Fat Kid Rules The World), and Beau Bridges. It will stay with you in the best and worst ways possible.  @  SALE

STOKER—In the recent issue of City Arts, our colleague Matt describes Oldboy director Chan-wook Park’s first American movie as a “darkly comic coming-of-age fable about a young woman (Mia Wasikowska) coming to grips with her place in family made up of nothing but dangerous psychopaths—something she doesn’t find entirely undesirable.” Matthew Goode and Nicole Kidman play two of the psychopaths. JACK THE GIANT SLAYER—Nicholas Hoult (the zombie boyfriend from Warm Bodies) battles giants and rescues a princess in this creature-filled, special-effect laden, Ewan McGregor co-starring adventure from director Bryan Singer (X-Men).  BLU  3D BLU  @

MARKETA LAZAROVA, THINGS TO COME, and SAFETY LAST!—The Criterion Collection debuts three greats: An epic, experimental Czechoslovakian action film from 1967 directed by František Vlacil; a 1936 political sci-fi collaboration between producer Alexander Korda, designer and director William Cameron Menzies, and writer H.G. Wells; and Harold Lloyd’s 1923 classic silent comedy, which you should watch because everyone should know what leads up to him hanging off the clock.
