Safety Not Guaranteed & many more New Releases for October 30

This week’s gigantic batch of new releases has indie comedies, family fare, lots of foreign films (especially from India), a bunch of new Blu-rays (including fifteen by Alfred Hitchcock), one big video game, and much more. Get comfortable. Here’s the looong list:

BLU = Also available to rent on Blu-ray disc

3D BLU = Available for rent on lovely 3D Blu-ray, though you must have a 3D TV to experience the full glory.

@ = Available for sale in the store (but we can special order anything, see us for details.)

Our online store is nearing the end of its revamp--please email us at scarecrow@scarecrow.com or give us a call at (206) 524-8554 if you need to buy something without setting foot in the store.

SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED—A magazine writer and two interns head to the Washington coast to answer a classified ad seeking a companion for time travel in this funny, honest film that's made even better by its great cast, including Jake Johnson, Aubrey Plaza, Kristen Bell, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Lynn Shelton, and Mark Duplass as the would-be time traveler. And it was made right here in Seattle.  BLU  @

THE CAMPAIGN—Career politician Will Ferrell takes on fresh-faced newcomer Zach Galifianakis in a silly, raunchy battle for South Carolina’s 14th District. Perfect for those done with the whole election cycle.  BLU  @

THE BALLAD OF GENESIS AND LADY JAYE—Filmmaker Marie Losier spent seven years with pioneering musician Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and performance artist Lady Jaye chronicling their ongoing physical transformations to become more like each other in this affecting documentary on art, collaboration, and love.   @

METALOCALPYSE: SEASON 4—This season of the Adult Swim show features special guests such as Janeane Garafolo, Marc Maron, Patton Oswalt, Jon Hamm and Werner Herzog (!). BLU  @

RUBY SPARKS—Paul Dano plays a struggling writer who creates the perfect muse within his work. Then one morning he wakes up and she’s right there in the flesh...   BLU  @

ROSEMARY’S BABY—Just in time for Halloween, the Criterion Collection presents Roman Polanski’s creepy psychological thriller starring Mia Farrow as the mom-to-be who suspects her neighbors (Ruth Gordon and John Cassavetes) have other plans for her child. The extras include a new documentary featuring interviews with Polanski, Farrow, and producer Robert Evans.  BLU  @
