New Releases for October 23

Note: this week’s new releases are a bit heavy on relationship drama. If you’re not in the mood for exploring such emotions, there’s plenty of other movies & shows to choose from--anything from happy, sparkling fairies to axe-wielding presidents. Here's the list:

BLU = Also available to rent on Blu-ray disc

3D BLU = Available for rent on lovely 3D Blu-ray, though you must have a 3D TV to experience the full glory.

@ = Available for sale in the store (but we can special order anything, see us for details.)

Our online store is nearing the end of its revamp--please email us at scarecrow@scarecrow.com or give us a call at (206) 524-8554 if you need to buy something without setting foot in the store.

MAGIC MIKE—Apparently while making Haywire, Channing Tatum mentioned his early career as a stripper to Steven Soderbergh, and a couple years later, here we are. Tatum and Matthew McConaughey star as veteran dancers at a Tampa club along with Alex Pettyfer as the hotshot newcomer.  BLU  @

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER—You’d be surprised how satisfying it is to watch a man dressed as our nation's sixteenth President slay vampires. This would be a good (and easy) Halloween costume.  3D BLU   BLU  @

SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD—Steve Carell and Keira Knightly are neighbors who set out to reconnect with family and former loves before a gigantic asteroid hits the Earth. This funny and heartfelt film written and directed by Lorene Scafaria (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) features a great supporting cast, including Patton Oswalt, Connie Britton, and Melanie Lynskey.  BLU  @

TAKE THIS WALTZ—Sarah Polley’s latest drama left audiences devastated at this year’s SIFF. It stars Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen as couple jolted from their comfortable rut by her attraction to a neighbor.  BLU  @

THE INVISIBLE WAR--A powerful and unsettling documentary that examines sexual assault --and its coverup--in our military.   @

SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY—The Criterion Collection presents John Schlesinger’s sophisticated exploration of relationships, starring Peter Finch, Glenda Jackson, and Murray Head as the points of a complex love triangle.  BLU  @
