PROMETHEUS and more New Releases for October 9

This week brings outstanding classic and contemporary Blu-rays, several entertaining TV shows, and a lot of dogs, cats, and aliens. Here’s the list:

BLU = Also available to rent on Blu-ray disc

3D BLU = Available for rent on lovely 3D Blu-ray, though you must have a 3D TV to experience the full glory.

@ = Available for sale in the store (but we can special order anything, see us for details.)

Our online store is nearing the end of its revamp--please email us at or give us a call at (206) 524-8554 if you need to buy something without setting foot in the store.

PROMETHEUS—Ridley Scott reenters the Alien world with what our colleague Bryan described in City Arts as “an epic, ambitious sci-fi film about existence and our place in the universe—and it raises for questions than it answers.” You may not have time to ponder such things when you’re cringing in terror. If at any time it gets too graphic, close your eyes and imagine who would win in a fight between David (Michael Fassbender) and Star Trek’s Lt. Commander Data.    3D BLU  BLU  @

A CAT IN PARIS—This charming Oscar nominee for Best Animated Feature follows the young daughter of a Parisian detective and her clever cat as they unravel a mystery. The DVD & Blu-ray include the original French language track with English subs and an English dubbed version.  BLU  @

SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS: THE VERY LOUD ENDING OF LCD SOUNDSYSTEM—The last days of a critically adored and incredibly popular band, featuring their final concert at Madison Square Garden (with appearances by Arcade Fire and Reggie Watts) and frontman James Murphy chatting with Chuck Klosterman about art and fame.  BLU  @

ROCK OF AGES—The smash Broadway musical gets a superdeluxe Hollywood makeover with a bunch of singing celebrities.  BLU  @

THE RAVEN—John Cusack plays drunken, snarling Edgar Allen Poe helping to catch a killer who is committing horrible crimes based on his writings. BLU

E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL—The movie that brings grown humans to tears is now on Blu-ray, rifles and all.  BLU  @

NOTETHE BEATLES: MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR has been a bit delayed, but it should be coming to take us away on Wednesday. Ask us if you don’t see it on the shelves.  BLU  @
