Cover your heart, Indy! New Releases for September 18

This week’s new release list can only be met with happy dances and cries of “SQUEEEE!!!”: Cabin in the Woods! Get a Life! Art of Rap! ALL THE INDIANA JONES MOVIES ON BLU-RAY!  And that’s just the beginning. Here we go:

BLU = Also available to rent on Blu-ray disc

@ = Available for sale in the store (but we can special order anything, see us for details)

Our online store is nearing the end of its revamp--please email us at or give us a call at (206) 524-8554 if you need to buy something without setting foot in the store.

THE CABIN IN THE WOODS—This would be your typical teens-terrorized-in-the-woods movie, except that it's from the minds of Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) and Joss Whedon, so you know you're in for something far out of the ordinary and highly entertaining. Our colleague Matt says in the September issue of City Arts, “It’s a very funny, exceeding clever series of twists on horror films of all strains…Warning: Don’t watch any trailers. Go in cold.” I’ll just leave this here…  BLU  @

THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL—An badass ensemble of British actors, including Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Penelope Wilton (from Downton Abbey) and the wonderful Maggie Smith, retire to India to find themselves and each other in this lovely film from Shakespeare in Love director John Madden.   BLU  @

CHICO & RITA—This Oscar nominee for Best Animated Feature from director Fernando Trueba and illustrator Jaiver Mariscal follows a piano player (Chico) and a singer (Rita) as they fall in love admist the Cuban Revolution. Our colleague Marc Palm says in City Arts that the film “develops a smart, realistic adult romance in stylish 2D animation.”  BLU  @

THE DO-DECA-PENTATHLON—Sibling rivalry goes to humorous extremes in this indie comedy from writers/directors/brothers Jay and Mark Duplass. @

STEVE MARTIN: THE TELEVISION STUFF—Make room on your shelf next to your LPs of Let’s Get Small and Wild and Crazy Guy for this DVD set that contains over six hours of comedy greatness.  @

CHILDREN OF PARADISE and LES VISITEURS DU SOIR—Criterion presents two films from director Marcel Carne. Children of Paradise is his 1945 masterpiece, previously available from Criterion but now on Blu-ray. Les Visiteurs is Carne's 1942 film that our colleague Mark describes in City Arts as “an allegorical tale where envoys of the Devil slip into France and are challenged by the concept of love.”   BLU  @
