New Releases for July 3: God Bless America

This week’s diminutive release list give you time to see everything new and then catch up on some of what you may have missed and/or head out in to the sunshine. Note that we'll be open 11am-9pm on the Fourth of July for all your independent renting needs. Here's the list.

BLU = Also available to rent on Blu-ray disc

@ = Available for sale in the store (but we can special order anything, see us for details)

Our online store is still undergoing a revamp--please email us at scarecrow@scarecrow.com or give us a call at (206) 524-8554 if you need to buy something without setting foot in the store.

God Bless America—For all you need to know about Bobcat Goldthwait’s scorching satire of reality TV, popular culture, and fame, we direct you to this review by online film critic Vern.  BLU  @

Wind Blast—This modern Chinese western follows a killer and his trackers across the desert, stopping for plenty of battles along the way.  BLU  @

The Hunter—Willem Dafoe plays a gruff mercenary whose mission to hunt a rare tiger through the Australian wilderness is complicated by his growing attachment to the locals.  BLU

Barbarella: Queen of the Galaxy—It’s finally on Blu-ray! If you’re unfamiliar with this 1968 psychedelic sci-fi romp starring Jane Fonda, our colleague Bryan says in the July issue of City Arts, “With its gaudy costumes and sets, winky double entendres and attractive cast, it’s probably the sexiest movie to somehow retain a PG-rating.” In related news, we’re taking a poll: Please send your vote for Duran Duran’s best song to scarecrow@scarecrow.com. My vote. @
