This week’s New Release list is short** but sweet. Here it is:

3D BLU = Available for rent on lovely 3D Blu-ray, though you must have a 3D TV to experience the full glory.

THE ARTIST—Last year’s Oscar winner for Best Actor and Best Picture a charming ode to Hollywood’s Silent Era.  BLU  @

 

21 JUMP STREET—Cops Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum go undercover at a high school in this hilarious, surprisingly awesome comedy inspired by the Fox TV drama (protip: keep your eyes out for stars of that show).  BLU @

 

MIRROR MIRROR—I don’t know about this take Snow White, but Julia Roberts looks as if she's having a great time playing a villain. It’s directed by Tarsem Singh (The Fall, R.E.M.’s video for “Losing My Religion”), which explains the fantastic sets and costumes.  BLU  @

 

WRATH OF THE TITANS—The gods and demi-gods are back for more dazzling CGI battles.  BLU    3D BLU  @

 

BULLHEAD—A cattle farmer goes head-to-head with a mafioso meat trader is this critically acclaimed tale of revenge and redemption from Belgium.  BLU  @

 

THE SOUND OF NOISE—A music-hating cop investigates a band of criminals set to perform a musical apocalypse in this inventive Swedish film.  @

 

THE SAMURAI TRILOGY and 39 STEPS—Two reissues/new to Blu-ray titles from The Criterion Collection: the Japanese epic directed by Hiroshi Inagaki and starring Toshiro Mifune, and the 1935 romantic thriller where “Hitchcock became Hitchcock.”   BLU   @
