New Releases for March 6

Any week where there's not one, but two crazy mutant shark-attack movies among the many New Releases is definitely a good one. Here's the list:

BLU = Also available for rent on Blu-ray

3D BLU = Also available for rent on 3D Blu-ray

@ = Available for sale in the store

SALE = Available for sale from our online store

GAME OF THRONES: SEASON ONE—Avoiding the show because you're convinced it won't be as enthralling as George R.R. Martin’s books? There's no need. Our colleague and devout fan Rich says in City Arts, “HBO does an excellent job of paring down the labyrinthine plot and legions of characters to a comprehensible level with little detriment to the source material. Martin's wonderful characters are fully realized thanks to great performances by Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Sean Bean (Ned Stark), and newcomer Maisie Williams (Arya Stark).”  BLU  @  SALE

FOOTLOOSE—In theory, this movie should be an abomination against Kevin Bacon, Kenny Loggins, and all that is good about the 80s. In reality, Craig Brewer’s remake is vibrant and entertaining—it feels distinctly like the original but somehow manages to have a style all its own. I freely admit to jumping up and dancing more than once.  BLU  @

THE SKIN I LIVE IN—A disturbing psychological thriller from Pedro Almodovar? Sounds good to me. Antonio Banderas stars as a plastic surgeon testing a skin-like substance on a mysterious captive.  BLU  SALE

IMMORTALS—Future Superman Henry Cavill plays a villager chosen by the gods to rise up against power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) in Tarsem Singh’s lavish mythological fantasy.  BLU  3DBLU

JACK AND JILL—Spoiler alert: Adam Sandler plays both Jack and Jill.

LIKE CRAZY—Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin play students who fall blissfully in love but once school is done they are left to suffer through the pains of a long-distance relationship.  BLU
