Independent Video Store Day SALE! Saturday, October 15th

Saturday, October 15th is INDEPENDENT VIDEO STORE DAY, a continent-wide celebration of neighborhood movie stores staffed by knowledgeable folks with a connection to their community. We at Scarecrow thought this would be a great opportunity for us to:

1) Have a big sale.

2) Ask esteemed members of the local & not-so-local film and arts community to recommend movies they like to our customers.

.3) Invite everyone who says, "I love Scarecrow" but maybe hasn't been to the store in a while to come back in and rediscover the joys of browsing in person over 110,000 titles all in one place.

Here's some of what will be going on Saturday:

* 50% OFF our entire inventory of used Blu-rays, DVDs, VHS & Laserdiscs! This sale will continue through the next week, but you'll definitely want to come early for the best selection.

* $3 OFF new DVDs & Blu-rays for sale (excludes sale priced items). This offer is good for ONE DAY ONLY!

* MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS from the film & arts community of Seattle & beyond, all together in a special rental section. Who picked a movie? What movie did he or she pick? We'll be posting some of the choices as the day draws near.

* ENTER TO WIN drawings for fabulous prizes.  What do we mean by fabulous? You could win 50 free rentals, a theater rental from Grand Illusion Cinema, prize packs from The Criterion Collection, Kino, Zeitgeist Films, & more.

* Pre-paid rental SALE. Pre-pay for 10 rentals and you’ll get them for just $35. That's a savings of $10; we keep track of the rentals on your account as you use them and they never expire.

In keeping with our commitment to supporting our greater film community*, we’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds from our pre-paid rental sales to REEL GRRLS, an organization that empowers young women from diverse communities to realize their power, talent and influence through media production with a variety of hands-on workshops for teenage girls in specific skills including animation, cinematography, script writing and more.

Volunteers from Reel Grrls will be on hand during the afternoon to record testimonials about video stores and Scarecrow as well. Stay tuned for more information as it develops...

* A quick primer on our community involvement:

Scarecrow is a long time supporter of the greater Seattle film community, sponsoring festivals like The Seattle International Film Festival and The Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, series at theaters such as Northwest Film Forum and Grand Illusion Cinema, and film organizations like The Film School and Reel Grrls. They also regularly donate their time and resources to schools and other local non-profit organizations, including KEXP, University District Youth Center, and Northwest Harvest.
