Theatrical round up for February 18th & beyond

Greetings and welcome to another theatrical round up. This weekend's suggestions begin at SIFF Cinema with the ABSOLUTE MUST SEE double feature of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION. What's the ADAPTATION, you ask? It's just a shot-for-shot remake done by three kids over six years in the 1980s--Eric Zala & Chris Strompolos began their endeavor in 1982 when they were barely teenagers, worked on it every summer vacation, and finally wrapped in 1989 around the time LAST CRUSADE came out.  Eric & Chris will be at this weekends' screenings so you can ask them all about the many attempts to make the iconic boulder.  DON'T MISS this rare opportunity to see their inspired work. And you may enjoy our chat with Chris on our most recent podcast. Northwest Film Forum has RABBIT A LA BERLIN, an Oscar nominated short film about the bunnies who lived happily in the no man's land between East & West Berlin until the wall fell and disturbed their sanctuary. And, it's all told from the rabbit point-of-view! The short screens with WHEN HERONS DREAM, which follows a lovely blue heron through our lovely Northwest seasons. Director Serge Gregory will be in attendance to introduce the 7pm show on Friday. On Sunday there's LONG LIVE OUR LOVE, a collection of short films by directors Michael Robinson, Ben Russell and Laida Lextundi, who will be in attendance. On Tuesday the 22nd,  there's PUNCHING THE CLOWN, a fictional tale of trying to make it on stage and off starring  real-life comedian/musician/ "modern day American troubadour" Henry Phillips.  Sarah Silverman calls it, "The best movie about comedy I have ever seen." Jason Miller's BADMOVIEART returns to Central Cinema on Monday the 21st with the sci-fi humor of EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY starring the lovely Geena Davis.  This weekend, the CC has back to back screenings of EVIL DEAD and EVIL DEAD 2, followed on Wednesday by the ARMY OF DARKNESS Quote-A-Long ("Hail to The King, baby"). On into the week, there's MOVIE CAT MOVIE TRIVIA on Tuesday and a rousing WEST SIDE STORY Sing-A-Long on Thursday.  Down the street from us at Grand Illusion Cinema, there's SAINT MISBEHAVIN', a revealing look at the life & work clown/counter-culture icon Wavy Gravy. Mr. Gravy will be in attendance via Skype for Q & A at Saturday's show.  On Saturday afternoon, the Sprocket Society has yet another SECRET SCI-FI MATINEE with a secret classic feature and an installment of the Flash Gordon serial.  The demonrific THE GATE II: TRESPASSERS makes an encore appearance in the Late Night spot. Sunday the 20th is your last chance to see the held-over  EVANGELION 2.0:  YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE at the GI as well. Speaking of last chances, this is your last full weekend to catch up on any Oscar related viewing. The Varsity has the Oscar nominated Animated & Live Action shorts,  The Egyptian has BIUTIFUL, Harvard Exit has THE ILLUSIONIST, and Columbia City Cinema has four of the ten Best Picture nominees all under one roof.  Happy viewing to all!
