Theatrical happenings this Halloween weekend

Darkness falls across the land...the midnight hour is close at hand...creatures crawl in search of terrorize y'alls neighborhood. It sounds like you'd be better off at home this weekend watching some movies rented from Scarecrow's special HALLOWEEN section. But if you're brave enough to venture out this weekend, here's some of what's going on in our area theaters: ZOMBCOM invades SIFF Cinema this weekend with the FILMS THAT ATE OUR BRAAAINS series, which includes classics like NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and ARMY OF DARKNESS. We're most looking forward to Friday night's midnight screening of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE with Malcolm McDowell in attendance. Check the ZOMBCOM website for their full schedule of zombiriffic events. POLTERGEIST and BEETLEJUICE continue at Central Cinema this weekend, along with a special screening of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER on Halloween night. Cast member/Radio8Ball guru Andras Jones will be in attendance. Then on Monday, the CC beings a week long run of GOODFELLAS, plus a screening of WAYNE'S WORLD on Wednesday, November 3 presented by Reel Grrls as part of their AWESOME MOVIES DIRECTED BY WOMEN series. This weekend's Midnight Movie at The Egyptian is the special 30th Anniversary theatrical re-release of the psycho stalker gore fest MANIAC. We recommend seeing this with friends--you may not feel comfortable leaving the Egyptian alone at 2am after watching this. Northwest Film Forum kicks off a week of films presented by Earshot Jazz. There's ORNETTE: MADE IN AMERICA, Shirley Clarke's 1985 documentary on saxphonist/violinist/composer/legend Ornette Coleman; ED THIGPEN: MASTER OF TIME, RHYTHM AND TASTE, a revealing look at the late drummer's life and incredible body of work; and the Allen Ginsburg biopic-of-sorts HOWL. James Franco stars as the iconic beat poet and follows him from the poem's creation to the obscenity trial that followed its publication. We'd like to tell you exactly what's happening down the street from us at Grand Illusion Cinema as the ALL MONSTERS ATTACK! series comes to a timely demise, but their programming is shrouded in mystery. Friday and Saturday night there's a SUPER SECRET TRIPLE DOUBLE FEATURE "guaranteed to peel the skin from your eyeballs and make you sh** your pants in fright!" and on Halloween night there's the SPOOKSHOW SPECTACULAR that promises "sights so horrible, you may have nightmares!" Then again, maybe we don't want to know what's playing. We just know we'll be there. Spooky viewing to all and have a happy & safe Halloween.
