Things of a theatrical nature for the October 23rd weekend

We begin the weekend's theatrical roundup with the home stretch of The Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, which comes to a close on Sunday. Check the schedule for all the films and parties happening before then. Once such event is Friday night's WAY GAY SING-ALONG over at Central Cinema. It's your chance to belt out classics by everyone from ABBA to Cher to Morrissey with subtitles to help clarify all those lyrics you've never been 100% sure about. Central Cinema's also setting the mood for Halloween with BEETLEJUICE, POLTERGEIST, and a special Halloween themed TV DINNER on Thursday night. Elsewhere east of I-5, if you missed its screening during the Local Sightings festival, Northwest Film Forum has a week-long run of the excellent documentary on writer/musician/ "grunge guru" Steve "Jesse" Bernstein, I AM SECRETLY AN IMPORTANT MAN. We've got some free posters for it here--get one on top of the kids section while supplies last. NWFF is also showing THE ANCHORAGE, which follows an elderly woman's journey through the woods when a hunter disrupts her stroll. It is, according to its authors, "is made as a surrendering to grace—as a set of distinctions between realism and actuality. It's a film about the passage of time, both in life and in movies themselves." Director CW Winter in attendance for the Friday & Saturday screenings. In the Required Viewing department, SIFF Cinema presents The Complete METROPOLIS, which includes the lost 25 minutes of footage cut from Fritz Lang's 1927 masterpiece before its commercial release. Friday at 7:30pm and Saturday at 1pm, you can see it with live accompaniment by the Alloy Orchestra. ALL MONSTERS ATTACK! continues at Grand Illusion Cinema with a double feature of BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and NIGHT OF THE CREEPS. Don't miss Friday night's screenings presented by Spencer & John from The MacGuffin Podcast. They'll introduce each film and give you a chance to win fabulous prizes by local U-District businesses such as Scarecrow Video. The title-says-it-all DEVIL FETUS returns in the Late Night spot. Enjoy.
