Chod is an ancient tantric practice that teaches us about the essence of sacrifice. It is traditionally performed in cremation grounds and other frightening places where emotional energy is intensified. .. Through practicing Chod, we can give ourselves away completely... In the hands of a master such as Lama Wangdu, Chod is also a powerful ritual for physical healing and pacifying environmental disturbances." Edgar—A 2008 production of Puccini's opera from Teatro Regio Torino Flight of the Conchords: One Night Stand --The 2005 HBO special that introduced many of us to the musical stylings of Bret & Jermaine. Good Fortune—"Good Fortune is a provocative exploration of how massive international efforts to alleviate poverty in Africa may be undermining the very communities they aim to benefit. In Kenya s rural countryside, Jackson s farm is being flooded by an American investor who hopes to alleviate poverty by creating a multimillion-dollar rice farm. Across the country in Nairobi, Silva s home and business in Africa s largest shantytown are being demolished as part of a U.N. slum-upgrading project. The gripping stories of two Kenyans battling to save their homes from large-scale development present a unique opportunity to see foreign aid through eyes of the people it is intended to help." Great Rift: Africa's Greatest Story *"Visible from space, Africa's Great Rift Valley runs four thousand miles from the Red Sea to the mouth of the Zambezi - a diverse landscape of erupting volcanoes, forest-clad mountains, spectacular valleys, rich grasslands, vast lakes and mighty rivers. Home to the greatest concentration of animals on earth - lions, crocodiles, elephants, hippos and flocks of flamingos - and pastoralists such as the Maasi - this is a land of constant geographical turmoil. It will take you to another world - a world of exotic extremes, where the forces of nature have shaped the landscape and so created a hotbed of evolution. It is the very cradle of mankind." Jimi Hendrix: Guitar Hero"Jimi Hendrix: Guitar Hero includes all new and exclusive interviews with Dave Mason (Traffic), Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones), Eric Burdon (The Animals), Paul Rodgers (Bad Company), Ginger Baker (Cream), Bev Bevan (ELO), Crosby, Stills and Nash and others. Some of these musicians were his mentors, some his contemporaries and some admirers of his incredible talent. Countless musicians have emerged as new talent as a result of his influence, explaining why Hendrix's work remains at the zenith of rock music to this day. Moving beyond the icon and the myth, Classic Artists brings alive the image and music that Jimi Hendrix evoked from his very soul, using the instrument, as, he put it, as his "personal diary." This style evoked a home-grown and raw, uncensored sensuality, which indeed was his nature and that of his music, as if he were his own muse. Narrated by Slash (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver) a longtime Hendrix acolyte, this film is less a biography than the first film ever to focus on the music itself and the impetus of the master who created it." In From The Cold? The World of Richard Burton—"Few great actors have been so unfairly represented in the public image. Drunk, a wastrel, uncontrollable, unprofessional, besotted with glamour and wealth - just a few epithets dumped on Richard Burton. Instant Expert: A Quick Guide to Ben Franklin/ The Story of Oil—Two crash courses from The History Channel. Jeff Koons Show—"In Alison Chernick's comprehensive and, at times, comical documentary about the man who turned 70,000 flowers into a giant puppy, controlled the auction houses trumping all record sales and captivated the art world with his wide mid-American smile, we get a tour into contemporary art's most enigmatic and controversial character." Lafayette: The Lost Hero—"With Lafayette's triumphant 'return tour' of the United States in the 1820s, he became one of the most important and admired figures in post-Revolutionary America. This documentary chronicles Lafayette's dramatic life story, his enduring ideals and influence on both countries during the Revolutionary War as explored by filmmaker Oren Jacoby." The Lottery (2010)—" In a country where 58% of African American 4th graders are functionally illiterate, The Lottery uncovers the failures of the traditional public school system and reveals that hundreds of thousands of parents attempt to flee the system every year. The Lottery follows four of these families from Harlem and the Bronx who have entered their children in a charter school lottery. Out of thousands of hopefuls, only a small minority will win the chance of a better future." Mad Ron's Prevues From Hell—" See the Virgil Films & Entertainment release of this critically acclaimed UNRATED horror movie trailer compilation, hosted by ventriloquist Nick Pawlow and his very dead zombie pal, Happy Goldsplatt. National Geographic: 24 Hours After Hiroshima—"On August 6th, 1945 a weapon unlike any other before was unleashed on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Four days later, the Japanese surrendered having been subjected to horrors and devastation previously unknown and unimaginable. But beyond the horror and human toll, real scientific questions remained unanswered. In 1945, a team of scientists and experts from the Manhattan Project was ordered by President Truman to investigate the facts of what really happened when the atomic bomb exploded over Hiroshima. National Geographic reveals the incredible science behind what happened moment by moment in the 24 Hours After Hiroshima." Parsifal: The Search for The Grail—"The Grail - the cup which Jesus Christ is said to have used at The Last Supper - is one of the most powerful symbols in Western culture. Wagner's three-act opera, Parsifal, is the most famous work which celebrates the search for the Grail. Parsifal is an opera about ideas, about philosophical questions rather than answers, where the questions themselves are what is important, and the power and eloquence with which they are expressed. This documentary explores the explosive nature of Wagner's dangerous ideas." Kevin Pollak: The Littlest Suspect—"The Littlest Suspect is the third one hour stand-up special by Kevin Pollak Although best known for his award-winning work as an actor in over sixty films (A Few Good Men, Casino and The Usual Suspects), Kevin started out as a stand-up comedian, and was recently named on of the Top 100 Comedians of All Time by Comedy Central." Real Robin Hood (History Channel)—" The marauding mercenary of English folklore is one of history's best-known tales, and the legend of Robin Hood is the inspiration for more movies, radio and TV programs than any other folk hero. But the image of a hero in tights and a feathered cap is a somewhat recent addition to the myth. In reality, Robin Hood is a composite of several historical figures whose exploits date back to the age of the Crusades...This special will distinguish between historical evidence and Hollywood fiction, and seek to create a realistic portrait of the mythical hero." Rock Prophecies—"40 Years, 6,000 Rock Stars, and 200,000 Photographs Later, Robert Knight is About to Take His Last Shot.Imagine seeing bands like Led Zeppelin or the Rolling Stones long before they became famous. Legendary rock photographer Robert Knight did just that, and has the photos to prove it. Rock Prophecies explores Robert's amazing career and follows him on his quest to help the bands of today become the rock legends of tomorrow, whether promoting Panic at the Disco before anybody has heard of them, or convincing Aussie band Sick Puppies to sell everything and move to the United States. When Robert stumbles upon Tyler Dow Bryant a 16-year old guitar phenom from Texas he's convinced he may have found the next Stevie Ray Vaughan. Robert risks his reputation and career and takes a chance on Tyler. The two then set off on an unbelievable journey to take their own shot at making history." Seattle Mariners: Essential Games and My Oh My!—This never, ever fails to make me tear up. Il TritticoYet another Puccini opera production, this one from 2007 by Teatro Comunale Di Modena. I've always found it interesting that a man who wrote such amazing operas died due to complications from throat cancer. Don't smoke, kids. 2501 Migrants: A Journey—"Daily, thousands of primarily poor and young indigenous Mexicans abandon their native homes. They start voyages to the first world in search of jobs and the hope of a brighter future - or, any economic future at all. In their wake, they leave behind the hollow footprints of a cultural and domestic abandonment. 2,501 Migrants: A Journey illustrates this through the story of Alejandro Aantiago, a middle-aged artist and family man from Oaxaca, Mexico...Alejandro experiences, first hand, the reality that Oaxaca has emerged as one of Mexico's leading exporters of human labor to the United States. Inspired by this, he decides to create a monumental installation art piece: 2,501 life-size sculptures - an homage to each individual migrant who left his village." Each DVD covers eight wines in-depth that are typical of the country...Taught in a fun and non-intimidating style, this series will help you make sense of old world wines." ...AND MORE MOVIES Abandoned (2009)—"Mary Walsh delivers boyfriend Kevin to a hospital for routine outpatient surgery. Included interviews in this mockumentary by David Carradine, Harry Dean Stanton, Daryl Hanna and Virginia Madsen." Boogie Woogie—"An all-star cast has wicked fun in skewering the pretentions and superficiality of the art world in this comic romp by director Duncan Ward. Emmy and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) is a cougar on the prowl for a new boy-toy; Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) is an ambitious assistant who will do anything to advance her career; Tony winner Alan Cumming (X-Men 2) is a hapless dealer with too much decency for his own good; Danny Huston (Robin Hood, Clash Of The Titans) is a rapacious dealer; and the legendary Christopher Lee (The Lord Of The Rings trilogy) is the owner of the priceless work of art titled Boogie Woogie that they all circle with naked desire. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but art ALWAYS has a price." Brahms & The Little Singing Girls"Tony Palmer's film explores the final period in Johannes Brahms' life, when the German composer lived as a bachelor in Vienna; frequenting the city's prostitutes whom he described as his 'little singing girls'. When his past is exposed and a battle amongst the townsfolk breaks out in gunfire, he will have to choose sides between the outlaws and the law-abiding citizens." $5 A Day*--"Christopher Walken is hilarious as Nat, an eccentric con-artist and deadbeat dad dying to reconnect with his troubled son, Flynn (Alessandro Nivola, The Eye, Laurel Canyon). Diagnosed with a terminal illness, Nat shanghais his reluctant son into driving him cross-country for experimental medical treatment. Low on cash, they pull off increasingly ridiculous and embarrassing schemes along the way to reach their destination spending only $5 a day. Four In The Morning (1965)—" It is moments before dawn, and the river traffic on the Thames begins to ease its way through the fog. The river police find the body of a young girl left by ebb tide. Joel David Moore (Dodgeball), Deon Richmond (Scream 3) and Mercedes McNab (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) star - along with horror icons Tony 'Candyman' Todd, Robert 'Freddy Krueger' Englund and Kane 'Jason' Hodder - in this screamingly funny carnage classic that Fangoria hails as 'a no-hold-barred homage to the days when slasher films were at their reddest and wettest!'" Richard nears his breaking point when he meets Samuel (Louis Gossett, Jr.), an elderly janitor who lives in the basement of his dormitory. As Samuel guides Richard through the trials of racism and the personal life that haunts him, Richard undergoes a transformation that forces him to choose between his dreams and his destiny." One Night (2008)—"Fifteen New Yorkers go into a Friday night unaware of the fact that their lives are about to change...As the night unfolds, the characters all convene at the same music venue, and their lives intersect in ways both humorous and poignant. We can see that they're driven by an unconscious desire for human connection, and their interactions with strangers reveal to them what they've been missing, allowing them to see others -- and themselves -- in a truer light.
