Friday the 13th and Valentine's Day weekend!

[caption id="attachment_396" align="alignnone" width="679" caption=" "] [/caption] Greetings and Happy Friday the 13th / Valentine's Day weekend, everyone. As of this post there are still copies of the original Friday the 13th and its sequels available for rent tonight, especially recommended if you're thinking about seeing the remake. We're without a specific Valentine's Day rental section this year but that doesn't mean we don't still love movies about love. Feel free to ask us for an appropriately themed film--I've been suggesting Once lately, it's lovely dovey without a lot of sap and other dramatic crap. There's also plenty of films here to distract from all the romance in the air, too. I suggest Terminator 2 (unless you saw it last night in 70mm at the Cinerama, in which case watch the original). We've also have a SUPER ENTERTAINMENT VALUE ALERT: The second season of 30 Rock is now in the 2nd Take section. All the stupendous hilarity is now just $2.50 for four days. That totally blows my mind grapes! Theater-going wise, if you're looking for a film that combines a bit of Valentine's Day with the brutality of Friday the 13th, head to Grand Illusion Cinema: The Love Butcher is tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Valentine's Day) at 11pm. Read all about it here. If you're looking for all shiny happy love and with no machete action, Central Cinema has Sixteen Candles. If you'd rather ignore most things love and gore, there's the opening of the Noir City series at SIFF Cinema (Sunday they're showing Billy Wilder's Ace in the Hole!!) or Wendy and Lucy at Northwest Film Forum. This is also your last weekend before THE OSCARS to catch up on nominated films. And a word of advice: if your plans include going to see Coraline in 3-D, arrive at the theater EARLY. But don't feel too bad if you're just going to see it regular D, save 3-D for the second time you see it (you'll want to watch it again, I'm sure). Enjoy the weekend, longer than usual for some of you but we'll be open our regular hours on Monday for all your Presidential Cinema needs.
