Scarecrow Gift Guide #3

Today we'll focus on some of the TV show box sets that we would like to give or receive.

Jensen has a good idea for a universally appealing gift: Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection. 'The gift of science fiction continues to give,' he says. 'Every stylish episode is perfect in its own way. Whether it's a western timewarp or a moon confinement we can all relate on a distinctly human level. Who wouldn't want to feel human for Christmas?' The Definitive Collection has all 156 episodes, plus a biography of Rod Serling, interviews with the writers, audio commentaries with some of the actors (including Martin Landau, Leonard Nimoy and Cliff Robertson), and the unaired pilot, among other extras. 'It's the best TV show ever, better than most movies, actually. A sprawling, epic masterpiece that begins as a police procedural and expands with each season into a sad, loving portrait of a dying American urban landscape.' The Complete Series holds all 60 episodes on 23 discs, with extras from all five seasons including three prequels and plenty of audio commentaries. We also sell the individual seasons if you're not ready for that kind of commitment. [caption id="attachment_2172" align="aligncenter" width="331" caption="The Wire: The Complete Series. He says, 'Like The Wire this is another outstanding HBO series that I can watch repeatedly. I already own all of The Wire, so, Santa, this is what I want next.' [caption id="attachment_2173" align="aligncenter" width="320" caption="The Sopranos: The Complete Series - $249.95. We also have Season 1 on Blu-Ray for $54.95."]sopranos[/caption] For more light-hearted completists Phony T suggests Futurama: The Complete Collection because 'this set comes in a giant Bender head.' It is indeed one of the more attractive gimmick box sets we've seen come through here, with a life-sized plastic Bender head inside packaging made to look like the jars they keep frozen heads in on the show. Open up the back of Bender's head to reveal 19 DVDs containing all four volumes of the Futurama series and all four full length features (Bender's Big Score, The Beast With a Billion Backs, Bender's Game and The Wild Green Yonder). If you're familiar with the Futurama DVDs you know that every one of those discs is loaded with extras including commentaries, interviews, deleted scenes, scripts, storyboards, interviews, promos, still galleries, table reads, 3-D models, pencil tests, animatics, a Futurama-themed math lecture, Zapp Brannigan's Guide to Making Love at a Woman, a full-length episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad, complete with futuristic commercials, and at least 15 hidden features. If you add up all the individual commentaries, deleted scenes and other extras I bet you'd have more than a hundred to pore over. Clearly all of Asia thinks so too. Funny, dramatic, intense, cute amazing!' Volume 2 of the live action Korean drama incarnation of this popular story just came out today. Click here to order online.
