Random Oscar Notes...

1) Thehollywoodnews.com tells us the first four presenters for Oscar night. They are George Clooney, Hugh Jackman, Cameron Diaz and Casino Royale's Eva Green. Clooney means they'll start with Best Supporting Actress, so make sure you tune in on time to see Jennifer Hudson's sure-to-be teary acceptance speech. What awards will the others present? I'm getting a strong Sound Mixing vibe for Ms. Green... 2) The BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) are on Sunday, February 11th. There's a list of the nominees here. Are these televised here? Can I get up at 4am and watch them at a bar like a soccer match? 3) Maggie Gyllenhaal will be hosting the Academy's Scientific and Techincal Awards on Saturday, February 10th. Look for her to come out during the Oscar telecast and say, "I had the priveledge of hosting ..." followed by a highlight reel. 4) Martin Scorsese won the Director's Guild of America's Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film award (to put next to his "Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence" statuette), putting him one step closer to actually winning an Oscar. Will he do it? In a year without a clear Best Picture frontrunner (at least in my opinion), Best Director and Best Picture will likely split, and Mr. Scorsese could pull through. What do y'all think? 5) Check out the photos from the nominees luncheon at Oscarwatch.com. Click on the big group photo and play "who's wearing a name tag?" Don't forget to listen to David Schmader's AA MEETING podcast for more Oscar obsession. There's a new one every Thursday until the big day.
