Spooky Cinematic Happenings for Halloween weekend & early November

Happy Halloween weekend! Our Halloween and Kids Halloween sections will be up through the weekend and Monday for your last minute movie needs. SIFF CINEMA

Friday, October 28th ONLY: Susan Orlean, author of The Orchid Thief and one of my favorites  non-fiction stories "The American Male at Age Ten", presents RIN TIN TIN: THE LIFE AND LEGEND, her new book all about the movie star dog. Along with talking about the book, Orlean will present archival videos and a screening of of Rin Tin Tin's silent classic CLASH OF THE WOLVES (1925). The ticket price includes a copy of the book.

October 28th-October 31st

TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL-A hit at SIFF 2010, this gory horror parody starring Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine, and 30 Rock's Katrina Bowden has been highly recommended by all who've seen it, including Leonard Maltin, who recommended it on a recent episode of the DOUG LOVES MOVIES podcast.

HALLOWEEN! Monday, October 31st

WILLIAM CASTLE DOUBLE FEATURE--Celebrate Halloween with the original 13 GHOSTS and THE TINGLER.

October 28th-November 3rd

JANIE JONES, starring Alessandro Nivola as a struggling musician helped out of his self-destructive cycle by the arrival of  his "surprise" 13-year old daughter, played by Abigail Breslin.

THE RUM DIARY--Hunter S. Thompson's novel about American journalist Jack Kemp (Johnny Depp)'s rum-soaked adventures writing for a newspaper in Puerto Rico.

THE MAKIOKA SISTERS--Kon Ichikowa's 1983 film set on the eve of the Pacific War follows four sisters running their family's kimono business and scheming to get one of them married.

November 2-3

THE FILMS OF ALEXANDER PAYNE--Prepare for the upcoming release of Payne's new film THE DESCENDANTS with a retropective of his films. On Wednesday, there's a rare screening of THE PASSION OF MARTIN along with his segment of PARIS, JE T'AMIE, and CITIZEN RUTH.
On Thursday, there's ABOUT SCHMIDT and ELECTION.

 

NORTHWEST FILM FORUM

EARSHOT JAZZ FESTIVAL--Four recent jazz films, including the Seattle premiere of Pedro Costa's NE CHANGE RIEN

THE OREGONIAN--Calvin Lee Reader's surreal road movie, "assaults the senses with a screeching sound design, coarse, violent imagery and just plain freakiness. But below and above the shock value, it taps into something vital and raw."

DOUG BENSON--Comedian& host of the aforementioned DOUG LOVES MOVIES podcast. Rumor has it they'll be playing the Leonard Maltin game and you're encouraged to  come in costume as a movie character (especially if the character shares your name). Also performing is comedian/COMEDY FILM NERDS podcast host /former Scarecrow Video Podcast guest star Graham Elwood.
