THE TREE OF LIFE *—It’s hard to accurately describe Terrence Malick’s film. Our colleague Matt comes close in this month’s issue of City Arts, saying it’s, “essentially a story of self-awareness—both that of the Universe (or God) and that of a young boy growing into a man.” I found it profound, affecting, and gorgeous. See this movie. @ SALE
HORRIBLE BOSSES *— It’s Jason Bateman, It’s Always Sunny’s Charlie Day, and SNL All-Star Jason Sudeikis vs. evil bosses Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Aniston in what multiple reviewers have called Office Space meets Throw Momma From The Train. It's from Seth Gordon, director of the excellent KING OF KONG. Keep your eyes peeled for a Steve Wiebe cameo. @ SALE
THE TRIP—Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon talk food, friendship, and fame as they journey across the UK. @ SALE
TERRI—I think it’s safe to say we all wish John C. Reilly had been our high school Vice Principal…
BEAUTIFUL BOY—Maria Bello and Michael Sheen play parents whose lives are shattered when their son goes on a shooting spree and then kills himself.
LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN *—Jennifer Jason Leigh & Stephen Baldwin take to the seedy streets of '50s Brooklyn in this drama based on the novel by Hubert Selby, Jr., available at long last on DVD & Blu-ray. @
AQUA UNIT PATROL SQUAD 1: SEASON 1—From the ashes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force rises a crime fighting force like no other! Apparently it now takes place in Seattle. The DVD also contains the last seven ATHF episodes. @ SALE
