Here's some of what's new for the week of July 7th. A * indicates we also have a Blu-ray for rent
MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000: COLLECTION 15 aka
MST3K XV-Four films with the gang's usual enlightening commentary:
Zombie Nightmare, Racket Girls, The Girl In Lovers Lane and
The Robot Vs. The Aztec Mummy (I'm rooting for the mummy).
KNOWING-Highlights of this recent addition to the global catastrophe canon include a GCI moose on fire, ominous black pebbles, a truly horrific plane crash, over use of GPS, vague questionings of faith, and two cute bunnies. All this plus Nicolas Cage being driven mad by a list of numbers that predict the end of the world. It's good explosive fun.
*
PUSH-The plot sounds
X-Men-esque: A group of people with special telekinetic powers hide from and try to take down a sinister government agency called The Division that wants to use them as weapons. It stars Chris Evans as a powerful "mover" (aka he can move things with his mind), Dakota Fanning as a clairvoyant and Djimon Hounsou as a Division agent and turncoat "pusher" who can control people with his thoughts. Expect plenty of chase scenes & objects flying at random through the streets of Hong Kong.
*
THE UNBORN-Only an entity who was never born can save a young woman from an old family curse that wreaks havoc on her sanity and sleep schedule. Written and directed by David S. Goyer, who also wrote
Batman Begins and
Blade II. The DVD includes theatrical and unrated versions of the movie.
