--Get your tickets to the Wednesday, January 17th
midnight screening of
INLAND EMPIRE! They're $20 and going fast. You can always take a nap beforehand, like while you wait in line to get your DVD of
Eraserhead signed here at the store from noon to 2pm that afternoon. Don't worry, we'll wake you up when it's your turn.
--See
Showgirls with David Schmader on either Wednesday, January 3rd or Thursday, January 4th (or both!) at the Triple Door. We at Scarecrow were fortunate enough to have hosted a
Showgirls screening with Mr. Schmader a while back and can vouch for his astute critique of this cinema masterpiece. His commentary was even more hilarious than the looks on the faces of a group of college kids who happened to walk by and glance in while we were projecting the infamous pool scene. Advance tickets are $12.50 and $15 day of show. Doors open at 5:30 and the show will start at 7:30pm. Call (206) 838-4333 for tickets (you must be 18 or older).
The screenings are a benefit for
Washington State CASA, an organization that trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system. Volunteers investigate a child's history, facilitate communication between concerned adults, advocate for services and appropriate placement, and ultimately make recommendations to the judge in that child's best interest. You can find out more information, including how to volunteer, at
www.washingtonstatecasa.org.
--Head to a theater near you and see
Children of Men, the new Alfonso Cuaron film. Those of us who've already done so can't get it out of our heads. Let us know how you feel about it.
Happy New Year, everyone!
