Happy weekend, everyone. Here's a quick guide to movies you could be watching in theaters when you aren't watching all the great titles you rented from Scarecrow. We've
already posted about
BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI playing this weekend at
SIFF Cinema. Northwest Film Forum has the "freak folk" documentary
THE FAMILY JAMS featuring Devandra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Vetiver, and Michelangelo Antonioni's
LE AMICHE, the story of a group of women that, "make the promiscuous characters of
Sex and the City look dull in comparison." Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday they'll present
The Portuguese Melodies of Miguel Gomes , with a different film each night presented by the filmmaker himself. Over at
Central Cinema there's two films dear to the Scarecrow heart: THE WARRIORS (
"Warriors...come out and PLAAAAY!") and our beloved namesake
THE WIZARD OF OZ.
BadMovieArt returns there on Monday with
MAC AND ME, (a film dearer to some of us than they're comfortable admitting) and on Wednesday
Three Dollar Bill Cinema presents
VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. Lastly, this weekend at
Grand Illusion Cinema you can see Werner Herzog's
AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD on lovely 35mm film. Be sure to get your tickets for the GI's
CASABLANCA fundraiser on September 25th--we've got 'em on sale here at the store. While you're here, check out our special Grand Illusion Cinema rental section showcasing some of the films that have played the GI over its over 40 year history. I recommend
ACE IN THE HOLE and
THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS MOVIE. Enjoy.
