--Visit
one or
more movie
websites and express your outrage/giddiness over the Oscar nominations (or you can come in and whine/revel with us in person during normal business hours).
--Visit our Best of 2008 rental section and get many of the Oscar nominated movies already out on DVD. Several of those still not on our shelves are playing at
theaters around town. Our neighbors at the Seven Gables have
The Wrestler, while our neighbors down the street at the Metro have both
Frost/Nixon and
Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Why not make it a double feature?
--Jean Cocteau's
Beauty and the Beast, the last film in the Janus Essential Art House series at
Grand Illusion Cinema. The GI's late night film this weekend is
Stunt Rock--if you like rawkin' guitars, random explosions and general bad assness, watch the trailer
here.
--For the younger set, there's the
Children's Film Festival at the Northwest Film Forum, including a special appearance by David Newell, aka Mr. McFeely from
Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Just think to yourself "Speedy Delivery!" and you'll remember!
--The seemingly permenant fog engulfing our fine city sets the perfect mood for SIFF Cinema's
French Crime Wave series.
--The
Screen Actors Guild Awards are this Sunday night at 8pm on both TBS
and TNT. They'll be live everywhere but here on the left coast so stay off the Internets and E! if you're not into spoilers. I'm looking forward to the awkwardness of "I got my SAG card when I did a Burger King commercial when I was 6! My name is ______and I'm an
ACTOR," if anyone's going to mention the
strike, and finding out the winner of the Outstanding Performance by Male Actor in a Leading Role--will it be Mickey Rourke or Sean Penn? Is it too much to hope for a tie?
