"FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!" That's right. It's the one about football. And Texas. And high-school. There's not one superpower, swearing cowboy or mysterious hatch to be found. Just solid storytelling, and believable characterization from a great, mostly unknown, cast; especially
Kyle Chandler as Coach Taylor and
Connie Britton as his wife, who have the most realistic and nuanced relationship on TV. The improvised, hand-held cinematography on the show adds a texture and a life lacking in most other shows (I mean network shows, HBO is a different animal). Even if you hate football and high-school, WATCH THIS SHOW!
If you can't trust some non-famous guy you don't know (me), here's potty-mouthed comedian, and Pixar super-star
Patton Oswalt's take on the show: (it's towards the bottom of the page)

Rent Season 1, now! And then tune in when the new season starts (sometime this fall)! So that it's not unceremoniously canceled, like so many other great shows. Let's try and keep good TV shows on TV!

Also, don't judge a show by it's shitty cover. The content inside is much more interesting.
